Grandma

Every time I picked up the phone to call my grandma during the past months, I dreaded that she’d fall asleep on the phone again, that she’d again confuse names, that her speech again was slurred and that again, I would feel her health and her spirits deteriorating. I found excuses not to visit her [...]

The end of broodiness

Already as a child I was sure about wanting to become a mother one day. I always had a very distinct wish to become pregnant, give birth, care and love for the fruit of my loins. Even if that would have meant sleeping with my gay best friend or buying some Papa Frost sperm. Aged [...]

Under my umbrella ella ella

Bouncing to the sounds of Rihanna through the kitchen this morning with little L on my arm, I realised that this was ‘our’ song. We had only started dating when I boarded a plane to go to Stockholm to see the man who should become the love of my life. Big M picked me up [...]

Why walk when you can run?

‘Between the years’ is a German expression for the days in between Christmas and the New Year. It nicely describes the feeling of where I am at the moment. We are not completely over and done with Christmas, but neither are we in the midst of it. The same counts for the New Year. Time to sit back and reflect

So this was Christmas

Well, actually it was St. Lucy’s (Lucia) day. But as the whole family will be scattered all over the globe for Christmas, with one brother-in-law with his wife and in-laws in the US and the other one with my in-laws in Switzerland, we decided to bring forward the feasting and feting. So this was Christmas

It’s Yuletide! Or: a recipe for cinnamon stars (Zimtsterne)

Finally, it’s the season of comfort and joy again. Time to go overboard on Christmas decorations, buy presents for family and friends, write Christmas cards and wish lists, sit together around the table and feast (have I mentioned that there will be the whole family sitting around our table this Sunday, hoping to be fed? [...]
