Getting fit, Mummy stuff

Wednesday Weigh-In Vol. II. Or: A sad reunion with my friend Ferrero

snc10064Let’s call this first week ‘awareness week’. I was pretty aware of all the nasties that made their way into my stomach.

However, thanks to one of the best diet boosters ever, I managed to shrink a little. I shrank despite being totally off our usual schedule – we went to Germany last weekend to introduce little L to her great grandma – and despite a long car journey that made us pass France (pain au chocolat & sandwich jambon, fromage, beurre) and Belgium (waffles and chocolate), and finally guided us to our final destination, Germany, land of the Jaegerschnitzel. And did you know that there is a range of Ferrero chocolate snacks that are exclusively available in Germany? Of course, I had them all.

I can literally hear you shouting ‘Tell us! Share your secret, MM! What is this magic diet booster?’ Yee shall wait no longer.

It is sadness. Simply sadness. It always makes me a little sad to see my grandma, especially after granddad passed away last August. She has done good all her life long and is left alone now. Abandoned by her offspring, that – under the pretence of having her closer to care for her – moved her to a city she doesn’t know, out of her house, into a home.

Turns out my grandma doesn’t hand out blank cheques only because she will turn 94 next month. Guess who cares for her now.

I never wanted to go back to this city. Out of all places, why does she have to be there now? This place holds more bad memories than I feel I am able to deal with right now.

There is a German expression for the feeling I had all weekend long: ‘struck in the stomach’. It describes pretty well how I felt, despite being very well cared for in the lovely hotel Kaiserhof with its Jaegerschnitzel.

Now for the weigh-in:

Last week: 136 pounds

This week: 134 pounds

Pounds lost: 2

How many pounds left to lose: 9

  1. Good for you, making that trip. Not easy with a baby. I’m sure your grandma appreciated it.

  2. I need to boot up wii fit and see what it tells me my weight loss for the last couple of weeks is. The wii balance board is better than a set of scales as it gives you warm (yet ultimately empty) encouragement as you step on it.

I just need to get M’laddo off it as he’s addicted to the downhill skiing…

  3. Aww, I’m sorry about your Grandma. My bf’s grandma passed away in January, and it’s always hard to lose someone you love, let alone see them be sad. ((HUGS))

  4. What a pretty picture. Did you take it? It is very artistic. I am glad you were able to see visit your grandma.

I have been so busy gardening, haven’t had time to go online. I am glad you’re doing well and losing lbs! I can never seem to lose a pound 🙂

    Take care!

  5. Hey you! well done on the 2 pounds!!!! I wish I had just 9 to go!
I am so sorry to hear about your grandma and the fact that she is in a home away from her hometown. I am sure you made her day visiting her with her lovely great grand daughter.
I know the feeling you are talking about… the one when you just want to turn into one of these superhero who wears his pants on the outside and you could save the people you love and make them just happy… Unfortunately we are not superheros (yet, I’m working on it :)) so we can just do our best and provide all the comfort we are able to and get on with the flow. I am sure you did more for her with this visit than you think you have.
I see you next sunday at the BMB meeting!! Will be coming with the 3 boys. x
